A Vision for Gatesville
This is where our journey continues — and where our future takes shape.
Thank you for being here and for taking the time to learn about my vision for Gatesville. Strong communities are built through leadership that listens, communicates clearly, and serves with integrity.
After the 2024 election, I stayed focused on year‑round community service. I launched LeoCorona.net, a community bulletin board designed to share local resources and events. The site is maintained separately from campaign activities and exists to help residents stay connected to community information throughout the year.
In 2026, I will continue prioritizing what matters most to our residents: transparency, accountability, and an open line of communication between city leadership and the people we serve.
Through consistent action and engagement, I have prepared myself to lead. I would be honored to earn your trust as your next Mayor.
About Leo Corona
My family and I were welcomed to Gatesville in 2012, and what began as a place to live quickly became our home. After retiring from a successful 20 year career in the United States Army in 2015, I continued serving this community as a resident, neighbor, and volunteer. Service has shaped every chapter of my life, and Gatesville has given me the opportunity to continue that commitment in meaningful ways.
I am known locally for hands on engagement, accessibility, and a willingness to show up wherever help is needed. Over the years, I have participated in civic training programs such as the Gatesville Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy, and I remain actively involved in community safety, youth support, and local improvement efforts. Community members often describe me as visible, approachable, and deeply invested in the well-being of our town.
In addition to community involvement, I have taken an active role in understanding how our local government operates. I regularly attend and review City Council meetings, monitor agenda items, and follow decisions that impact our community. To strengthen my knowledge of public service requirements, I completed formal training through the Texas Attorney General’s Office in both the Texas Open Meetings Act and the Texas Public Information Act. These are the same transparency and open government standards required of elected officials, and they guide how I approach accountability, public access to information, and responsible leadership.
I have also completed emergency management training through FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute, including coursework in the Incident Command System (ICS), the National Incident Management System (NIMS), and the National Response Framework (NRF). These programs focus on how local, state, and federal agencies coordinate during emergencies, and they have strengthened my understanding of preparedness, response, and recovery at the community level.
In recognition of sustained volunteer service and civic involvement, I was honored in 2026 to receive two meaningful community awards. I was named Gatesville Citizen of the Year (2025) by the Gatesville Chamber of Commerce—an honor I view as a reflection of the strong, service-oriented spirit that defines our community. That same year, I received the Exchangite of the Year (2026) award from the Exchange Club of Gatesville. I am deeply grateful to everyone who serves and supports our community, and I am proud to stand alongside those who make Gatesville stronger every day.
My approach to community service is rooted in personalized care, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and integrity. Whether supporting local organizations, helping at community events, or working directly with residents, I believe that progress comes from consistent, collaborative effort. I also created LeoCorona.net, a non-political community resource designed to help residents stay informed, connected, and engaged with local events and information.
Gatesville is a community built on resilience, pride, and shared purpose. With your support, we can continue moving forward in a positive and meaningful way. This work is not about politics—it is about people, purpose, and progress. Together, we have the power to build a brighter, stronger future for our community.
Newspaper and Media Stories
Community Safety
Drug prevention, and access to essential resources remain top priorities for our families. I am committed to tackling these challenges head-on and working together to build a safer, healthier, and stronger Gatesville for all.
Working Together
We must also ensure that Gatesville is better prepared and more resilient. That means working closely with Coryell County officials to equip the Gatesville Volunteer Fire Department with the tools, training, and resources they need to protect our residents and infrastructure.
Infrastructure
Our city's aging infrastructure is a serious issue that can't be ignored. If we keep kicking the can down the road, we’ll face costly consequences—steep rate hikes and missed opportunities for growth. My promise to you is simple: I will lead with transparency, keep you informed, and tackle these challenges head-on.
Economic Growth
While economic growth brings opportunity, many residents are concerned about the pace of change—and how it might affect our small-town character and quality of life.
We pride ourselves on our adaptability and commitment to excellence in every aspect of our service to Gatesville. Explore what Leo Corona has to offer and how he can contribute to your success as a community.
